So far, 2020 is proving to be a very special year. Major events have left their mark on our work as Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo practitioners and on our lives in general. This year has been a turning point for at least two reasons. As a general issue, the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has not only severely affected our federal activities this year, but will probably lead us to deeply re-evaluate the way we organize ourselves from now on, from the way we practice to the way we plan and conduct our joint events. However, the great event which affected our lives as Môn Sinh of Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo is the passing away of the late Grand Master Chánh Chưởng Quản (GMCCQ – Head of the Vovinam Council of Managing Masters) Nguyễn Văn Chiếu on the 4th of February 2020. For over 40 years GMCCQ Nguyễn Văn Chiếu has been the driving force behind an unprecedented development of our Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo school, both on a national level in Vietnam and in several international Vovinam-related activities. His passing will inevitably cause some changes, but we are certain that we will be able to honour his memory through our actions.

Despite these circumstances, the year 2020 features many anniversaries, both for the Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo school in general and especially for our European federation. This year marks both the 100th anniversary of the birth of Patriarch Master Lê Sáng and the 10th anniversary of his passing. But it is also the year in which we celebrate 10 years since the creation of our federation.

What a journey! Since the creation of EVVF in the presence of GMCCQ Nguyễn Văn Chiếu in Paris on the 16th of October 2010, we went through both happy and sad moments, in which Vovinam Việt Võ Đạo practitioners in Europe have shown perseverance, enthusiasm and great results in promoting our discipline. The two main types of activities, the competitive ones – the European Championships – and the cooperative ones – the European Technical Seminars – are those which marked our activity and polarized the enthusiasm of the European practitioners.

As we could not celebrate the 10th anniversary of the EVVF founding through our planned activities due to the pandemic, which resulted the cancellation of the Technical Seminar in Moldova and the Senior Championships in Belgium, we celebrate the anniversary by a report on the events and activities from these 10 years, using this opportunity to thank all previous presidents, executive committees and commission members, but also the sponsors, leading masters in member countries and all others who have contributed to the EVVF in the past 10 years.
